Almost 9 years ago, my son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I'll never forget that night rushing my 3year old in the ER and watching the doctors and nurses work on him. All I could do was stand back as they poked his limp body trying to find a good vien. His blood sugar was so high, the Dr told me "our machines top out at 1600." The first thought in my head was what have I done? Why didnt I see this comming? Why didnt I question his increase in thirst or all of the sudden he wets the bed now after being potty trained? I just kept telling myself, he's playing more and its hot so he must be thirsty. Still to this day I have not forgivin myself for letting him get so sick and not knowing why. I wish I knew about the signs and symptoms before. Today Nathan is a healthy and active 11yr old. He plays football,skateboards and enjoys playing family games at home. If I can help just one family if not hundreds to recognize the signs of diabetes and together we can find a cure then my lifes coal will be complete.
