Hi There ;)
Thanks for visiting my page! :) I’m Jackie J. Singer, and I am a co-creator and co-founder of the Diabetic Angels, along with my twin sister and bandmates, MJ2 :) We all are twins and positive rockin’ country music singers, as well as, the four original Diabetic Angels who have the common goal of raising awareness for diabetes through educating, advocating, and fundraising. We have dedicated more than half our lives to volunteering for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and truly love to make a difference in the lives of other people, and hope to inspire others to do the same. We have found that giving of ourselves is rewarding in ways we simply cannot explain other than saying that the feeling of knowing you have helped even a single person is far superior to anything materialistic that you could ever receive.
As the fraternal twin sister of a Juvenile Diabetic, (who is 29 minutes older than me and more than 3 inches taller I might add), I do not have Diabetes, but sometimes I wish I did so that I could help her carry the burdens and deal with the challenges that she has had to face over the past 15 years. However, there are some rare days, she calls them “Bad Diabetic Days,” where Mollie’s blood sugars fluctuate so drastically that she just feels awful and it pains me to see her in that state, but still, I try to do my best to be there for her and help her in any way I can.
Some of our volunteering efforts consist of having filmed Public Service Announcement, mentored diabetics worldwide, and on May 8, 2007, met with two of President Bush’s Domestic Policy Advisors at the White House, regarding increased funding for NIH. However, this wasn’t our first trip to the White House; as a matter of fact, we have met President Bush on three different occasions, worked on a letter writing campaign to President Clinton, lobbied numerous Senators and Congressmen, testified three times before Senate and House Hearings, wrote a booklet entitled The Road to the Cure, for more than two years, filmed an on-going Video Diary for Good Morning America, about living with diabetes and followed the Video Diaries with two educational documentaries.
In addition to our music (singing, writing, playing, performing) and volunteering (with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) as my two main passions in life, I also love our three dogs, who are adorable troublemaking Labrador Retrievers and are the best dogs EVER, but then again I am biased ☺ Additionally, I love chocolate, but enjoy it in moderation unfortunately. Oh that brings be to another similar subject: eating healthy. Both Mollie and I love to eat healthy, from chicken salads, or splitting a turkey sandwich at Port of Subs, or getting a bowl of fruit instead of fries at restaurants, there are so many ways to eat healthy, it just takes a bit of searching :)
Well I think that is enough rambling about me :) I hope you enjoy my page and feel free to stop by the Diabetic Angels anytime and say hi :) Have an awesome day and I guess I will talk to you sometime soon :)
