Dear Mollie and Jackie,
My name is Alli Christy. I am 7 years old. I just finished first grade. I was diagnosed with diabetes when I was 4 1/2 years old. I still remember the day I was diagnosed. My hear felt so sad. I remember crying and screaming daddy "please make the diabetes go away". I was so scared and I just wanted to go home. When I got home I learned how to give myself shots (with the help of my parents-then on my own with supervision at age 5). I got the omnipod when I was six--and i love it. I love to teach other people all about diabetes. My favorite thing to do is to visit the hospital and tell other kids that just got diabetes that they can do anything...just like me. The researchers need money to find a cure, so I want to help them. I think they will probably find a cure when I am in college. It will be the best day ever...that's what I tell all of my friends. Sometimes having diabetes makes me sad. Especially when people say things that hurt my feelings--that has happened a few times this year. I usually try to problem solve it--just like you!!! I read everything on your website. It's great! Someday I want to meet you. I really want to be a diabetic angel...I actually kind of feel like I already am one just like you...I also want to ask my friends to join me. I think it will be great to teach more people about diabetes.
