Diabetic Angels

I'd like to say hi to all the mothers who are diabetics and to those who are the moms of diabetic, because I think it is essential that moms support each other. I'm sure your experiences were similar to mine, but let me explain. When my daughter was younger and needed 24/7 care, people would frequently say to me., how do you do it? My response was always the same, it's not about me and what I have to do is nothing compared to what Mollie lives with every day. Yet people would say, I don't think I could keep your schedule, or I could never learn what I need to know to help my child live with diabetes, or they said, how did you get over having to give her shots? These comments never really bothered me, because somewhere along the line I realized I was probably just like them at one time, uninformed. I now know that, as a mother, no matter what life throws my way, no matter what I fear, I am capable of facing the toughest challenges and more important I, like all moms, are the ones who can help our children to become independent and strong, learn to responsibly manage their diabetes, and we can set the examples they will need to follow, we can live demonstrate the character they will need to endure a life with diabetes. Some of us have diabetes and some do not, either way as parents we have a job that requires we be multi-talanted, willing to learn, and endless patience...Kudos to all you moms who are doing such a great job, because I have met throngs of really cook kids!!

Hi Nancy and welcome to our little group! However, I'm sure we (Moms of Diabetics) will continue to grow, after all there are so many of us! :)

Thank you for your offer to speak publicly and visit Representatives. I am currently working with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's (JDRF) Government Relation's (GR) Grass Roots department and they have some interesting legislation coming up and I think we will need the help of volunteers to call their representatives. Would it be okay if I give you a contact name with the GR department, so you can contact the JDRF Grass Roots office, or if I give them your name and e-mail address, so they can contact you directly whenever we need help with important legislation?? If you are interested, let me know which scenario works best for you and I will make the connection. Thank you again, by working together we will raise awareness and help find the cure!

You go girl!! As a mother of a type 1 diabetic child, I had the wrong insurance and so for 2 months after my daughter got out of the hospital, we had no endo. I took my baby to Joslin Medical center in Massechusetts( We lived in the South) and they have a "jump start" program that is free of charge for the first two years after diagnosis. They were fantastic.Awesome! Excellent! They referred us back to Emory childrens hospital in Georgia and my daughter doesn't even know she has diabetes unless she is eating. She is into Mountain biking and swimming. Her A1C are great. You are so right. What we do for them is nothing compared to what they go through. I am so privilaged to have my daughter in my life. God has placed the right people always there to help us. My daughter asked me if I had the choice again to have her knowing she would have diabetes, would I have her again. before she even finished the sentence I told her that I would choose to have 10 of her again with diabetes because her diabetes does not define her. She is Colleen and she has been defined by Almighty God with a very special and specific purpose in life. Now as mothers and people, think of all the wonderful talents we now have and the way our creativity and minds and spirituality have grown. So we are truly blessed in a special way.
